Payment Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

This Payment Policy explains the currency, supported card networks, authorizations, tax treatment, and refunds for The Ordinary purchases.

Currency

All prices, order totals, charges, and refunds are processed in United States dollars (USD). A card issuer may impose its own conversion or international transaction fee when an account uses another currency; the issuer controls those charges.

Accepted Credit and Debit Cards

We accept eligible Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express, JCB, Diners Club, and Discover credit or debit cards. The card must be valid, authorized, and supported by the issuer and checkout system.

Authorization and Review

By ordering, you authorize The Ordinary, Shopify, and the payment processor to validate details and authorize or charge the total. An authorization hold may appear before capture. A declined or incomplete authorization can prevent acceptance.

We may request verification or cancel when reasonably necessary for suspected fraud, an obvious error, payment mismatch, or unauthorized use. A captured amount for a canceled transaction is returned to the original payment method.

Payment Security

Shopify and authorized processors transmit and handle card information using their security controls. The Ordinary does not need to retain complete card numbers. We use reasonable safeguards, but no electronic payment or transmission method is completely secure.

Billing Information and Failed Payments

Enter the cardholder name, billing address, number, expiration date, and security code accurately. For a failed payment, verify details and contact the issuer. If duplicate authorizations appear, do not repeatedly submit; contact us to review the order status.

Taxes

Sales tax and other required charges are calculated and collected according to applicable law and shown at checkout when due. We do not guarantee that purchases in every location are tax-exempt.

Refunds

Approved refunds go to the original payment method after return inspection or confirmed cancellation. After issuance, the bank or card issuer usually takes 5–10 business days to post the credit. Review the Refund Policy for eligibility.

Other Payment Options

Only methods actually displayed at checkout are available. This policy does not promise installment plans, cryptocurrency, or another payment method that is not enabled and shown.
